Not My Field is a personal archive of writing that doesn't stay in one lane. One week it's how the stock market actually works, the next it's what's actually in your toothpaste, the week after that it's whether folding cars are ever going to be a real thing. There's no single beat here — just whatever seemed worth digging into and writing down.
I'm no one in particular. I don't have a remarkable career, I'm not trying to save the world, and I wouldn't call myself an expert in any field. What I do have is a collection of experiences and a curiosity that refuses to stay within the boundaries of a single discipline.
My education and work have taken me through textiles, management, biomaterials, and computer science. Most of what I write begins with an engineering mindset, but it is shaped just as much by life experience — you may call it failures :)
You know it is really enjoyable throwing ideas around you know nothing about. Let's admit it. :) When you're not an expert, you can't rely on assumptions. You have to research, question your own reasoning, and build your understanding from first principles. That process often leads to questions that people deeply familiar with a subject may no longer think to ask — not because they lack curiosity, but because some ideas have become so familiar that they feel self-evident.
Don't get me wrong, I rely on experts, and I ask them plenty of questions. Maybe I am not easily impressed :)
After all, how many things have we truly mastered as a species? We still struggle to understand the brain, consciousness, quantum mechanics, the universe, and even what makes a good system of government. In many areas, we've barely scratched the surface.
I also enjoy writing bold titles and provocative ideas. They're meant to spark thought, not demand agreement. Everything I write is a snapshot of how I think at a particular moment, not a belief carved in stone.
Change is one of the qualities that makes us a living thing. Our opinions should evolve as well. As for me, I'm still alive... for now.
What you'll find here
Posts are organized loosely by topic — economics, science, health, technology, and more — but the throughline is curiosity rather than expertise in any one of them. Some posts are researched deeply with sources linked; others are shorter, more personal reflections. Both are worth your time, just don't expect either one to read like a textbook.
