I came across a small Japanese company that sells ceramic pots paired with plant seeds — nothing close to a major corporation, more like a small family-run business. The site is in Japanese, so you’ll need a translator to properly look through it if you’re curious, but I wanted to share it here because something about it genuinely charmed me.
The first thing that stood out: their guarantee policy. If you buy one of their products and the seeds simply don’t sprout, you contact them and they send you replacement seeds — for a product that, all in, probably costs somewhere around $5. That kind of policy would be a hard sell for most businesses to justify, especially on such a low-margin item.
The second thing was their job listing page — and this is really what made me want to write this up. It was, without exaggeration, one of the most transparent, unpretentious job postings I’ve ever read. Full salary ranges stated upfront (roughly 220,000–250,000 yen a month, negotiable based on experience), exact working hours down to the morning meeting time, real detail on overtime expectations, vacation days, bonuses, insurance, even a weekly optional exercise session for employees. No vague corporate language, no hidden catches — just a plain, honest description of what the job actually involves and what you’d actually get in return.
To be clear: this obviously requires Japanese language fluency and a Japan work visa — it’s a listing written by Japanese people, for Japanese applicants, not an international remote opportunity. I’m not sharing it as a job lead. I’m sharing it because of what it represents: a small company, paying modest wages, being completely upfront about every detail rather than dressing anything up. There’s a real elegance in that kind of plainness — no corporate sleight of hand anywhere in it. I wish job postings back home were written with the same honesty.
It’s a nice little company. They sell ceramics, and they’ve found a charming way to sell more of them — by bundling them with plant seeds.
