Traveling forward in time is, in principle, achievable — it just takes an enormous amount of energy. Getting there requires approaching the speed of light, and that alone demands serious energy input.
Going backward in time is a different story entirely — potentially requiring more energy than the sun could ever produce. The core problem is that you’d need to bend the fabric of space-time itself, and holding a wormhole open and stable takes an extraordinary amount of energy on its own.
On top of that, you’d need antimatter, because ultimately you’re working with negative energy — and the only way we know of to generate negative energy is through antimatter. And producing usable antimatter is, itself, a genuinely difficult, resource-intensive problem we haven’t solved at any meaningful scale.
So: forward time travel is a (very difficult) engineering problem. Backward time travel looks less like an engineering problem and more like a fundamental physics wall we don’t currently have a way around.
